[Asiasis/August 11, 2025] HD Korea Shipbuilding & Offshore Engineering (KSOE) has received Approval in Principle (AiP) from the American Bureau of Shipping (ABS) for its newly developed Ammonia Vent Gas Treatment System with Small Scrubber. The system also secured recognition from the Liberian International Ship & Corporate Registry (LISCR), marking a significant advancement in eco-friendly marine technology.
A certification ceremony took place on the 11th at the HD Hyundai Global R&D Center (GRC) in Pangyo, Gyeonggi Province.
The innovative treatment system is designed to manage and neutralize residual ammonia gas left unburned after a ship’s engine is shut down. Utilizing a hybrid approach, it combines a compact scrubber with an existing integrated scrubber system. This configuration enables the efficient capture of toxic ammonia emissions while minimizing the generation of wastewater—enhancing both environmental performance and operational sustainability.
